Same top three, Mounties jump nine spots after stellar opening
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – With about half of the teams playing over the weekend, the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches’ Association’s Coaches’ Poll saw some shifting in the top half after impressive openings to the season.
Most notably, No. 4 Mt. San Antonio College jumped nine spots into fourth. The Mounties took down preseason No. 15 Fullerton 6-2 in the season opener, then followed that up with a six-inning win over preseason No. 19 Ventura. The Mounties outscored opponents 28-10.
Despite going 3-0 to begin the season, No. 9 El Camino fell four spots in the poll. All teams above the Warriors in the south either did not play or won each of their meetings opening weekend.
No. 6 Cosumnes River and No. 18 Feather River joined the poll for the first time after posting 3-1 records to begin the season. The two squads traded 2-0 victories in the opening weekend.
No. 13 Saddleback also makes its season debut in the top 20. The Bobcats went 3-0 on the weekend, beating Cerritos in the season opener. 3CFCA Pitcher of the Week, Kylee Cammarato pitched 14 innings and picked up two victories in her first two collegiate appearances.
