Mt. SAC rolls to 8-0 five-inning win over San Jose in 3C2A State Championship opener
The Mounties will face the winner fo Sierra vs Cerritos.

WALNUT, CA — A big eight-run inning propelled Mt. SAC to a five-inning, 8-0 victory over San Jose City College Thursday, May 18 to open the 2023 3C2A Softball Championship.
With the win, the South No. 2 Seed Mounties advance to day two and will play South No. 4 Seed Cerritos tomorrow at 11 a.m. San Jose will play tomorrow at 11 a.m. against North No. 1 Seed Sierra at Citrus College in Glendora, CA.
Mt. SAC (40-5) freshman pitcher Aleyna Urbina (20-2) went the distance, allowing three hits and striking out two San Jose batters.
The only runs of the game came across for the Mounties in the five-hit, eight-run second inning with seven of those runs unearned. The Mounties sent 13 batters to the plate.
Three big blows for the Mounties scored six of the eight runs.
Mia Mendoza singled in the first two runs, scoring Desiree Bravo and Katelyn Olson for the 2-0 lead. Mendoza came home for the third run on the first of three fielding errors by the Jaguars. After the bases were loaded, Mendoza and Brianna Goris scored for the 4-0 lead. That was followed by a two-base fielding error by San Jose (26-17) allowing Bravo to reach second, sending Ashley Diaz and Espinoza to bring in the sixth and seventh runs.
Bravo finished 2-2 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Goris end with two with a run.

Olson finished the big inning for the Mounties with a two-run double to right field for the 8-0 lead.
The Jaguars threatened in the first and second innings, leaving a runner on third each time. San Jose centerfielder Melissa Felix, who was 2 for 3 in the game, opened with a double, advanced to second on a sacrifice, but was left stranded.
In the only other scoring chance for the Jaguars, Haley Castro led off the second with a single to left and after bases were loaded, a ground out ended the only other scoring chance of the game by San Jose. Jaguar starter Alina Valdez suffered the loss.
