COD (8-1) traveled to the Menifee campus of Mt. San Jacinto College for its IEAC season opener. The Roadrunners would shut out the Eagles 18-0, as the visitors used a big fourth inning of 12 runs to cruise to an easy win over San Jacinto (0-4, 0-1).
In this contest, Desert scored one run in the second, two runs in the third, twelve runs in the fourth, and three in the fifth inning to cap the scoring. Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out two, walking one batter, only facing 18 batters,
Freshman shortstop and leadoff hitter Davia Hines (Palm Springs H.S.) went 2 for 4 with, 1 Double & 1 Triple, two runs scored and three runs batted. Freshman left fielder Alejandra Ramirez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) hitting in the 2nd spot went 4 for 5 with three runs scored, and three RBI's.
Sophomore catcher Natalie Avila (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 4 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI's, Robinson was the starting pitcher, also had a solid day at the plate, going 3 for 5 with one run scored and four RBI's, out of the four-hole in the lineup.
