College of San Mateo unseats Cypress as top-ranked softball team in the state
March 13, 2018
GLENDORA, Calif. - While the loss came well after the latest polls closed, maybe the coaches in California Community College
Fastpitch Coaches Association knew something the masses didn’t as College of San Mateo unseated
previous State No. 1 and previously undefeated Cypress College on top of the CCCAA State Rankings.
The Bulldogs, who are no stranger to being on top of these very rankings, continued their stranglehold on the
Northern California rankings as well, while Cypress saw some of it’s lead slip to State No. 4 and SoCal No. 2 Mt.
San Antonio College who has the State’s longest current winning streak at 16 games.
The Chargers meanwhile saw their 14-game win streak to start the season and 62 game win streak that dated
back to the 2017 season snapped on Friday afternoon when unranked but receiving votes Fullerton College
posted a 4-1 victory over the Chargers on the Hornets home field.
Sierra College maintained it’s steady position as the No. 2 team in the North and No. 3 team in the State, while
Golden Valley Conference early season favorite Feather River College gained a little ground on the Wolverines,
but jumping into the No. 3 slot in the North and No. 5 spot in the State.
Joining the State rankings this week is No. 8 Diablo Valley College (No. 4 in the North) and No. 10 Bakersfield College
(No. 5 in the South), who shares that No. 10 spot with El Camino College. The Vikings have won seven of their last
ten as they’ve started always perilous Big 8 Conference play, while the Renegades are winners of nine of their
last 10 contests.
