Trio of outstanding performances earn 3CFCA Player and Pitcher of the Week honors
GLENDORA - The California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association is pleased to announce it’s Week #6 State Player and Pitcher of the Week. Sierra College freshman catcher Toni Whipkey and Cosumnes River College sophomore shortstop Korina Krueg were named the co-Players of the Week, while College of San Mateo sophomore Lauren Quirke was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Pitcher of the Week – Lauren Quirke – College of San Mateo
Quirke had a busy week for the State’s top ranked Bulldogs as they played six games in the week including a pair against State #5 Feather River College. Quirke made four starts for San Mateo during the week, going 3-1 with a 1.40 ERA. Quirke struck out 16 batters in 20 innings worth of work. She also helped her cause at the plate by going 5-for-15 (.333) with three runs and four RBIs. Quirke is from San Mateo, CA where she attended Hillsdale High School.
Player of the Week –Toni Whipkey – Sierra College
Freshman catcher Toni Whipkey of Sierra had a monster week at the plate, hitting a home run in all four games she played. Whipkey hit .389 on the week, but did so while hitting four home runs, a double, and driving in 15 RBIs. In an early season Big 8 Conference showdown with San Joaquin Delta College, Whipkey was 2-for-5 with five RBIs and a big fly. Whipkey prepped at Roseville High School in her hometown of Roseville, CA.
Player of the Week –Korina Kreug – Cosumnes River College
Cosumnes River sophomore short stop Korina Kreug was nearly impossible to get out during Week #6 of competition. Over the course of three games, Kreug 9-for-11 at the dish, with six runs scored, six stolen bases, and three RBIs. In a double-header with Modesto Junior College, Kreug went a combined 6-for-7 with three RBIs, and four stolen bases. Kreug hails from Lodi, CA and prepped at Tokay High School.
