Cuesta Softball suffered its first setback in Western State Conference play with a run-rule loss to local rival Allan Hancock, 9-0. The Cougars, who were undefeated in WSC play entering the game, committed four errors in the game and the Bulldogs capitalized with eight unearned runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. Designated Player Sam Cabrera and Centerfielder Patty Bucio broke up the Bulldog Pitcher Bailey Killough's no-hit bid with a back-to-back, two-out singles in the 5th inning, however Cuesta did not get a runner past second base in the game. Killough's shutout in the pitching circle was only half of the damage she did. Killough also enjoyed a three-hit game at the plate. She was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two more driven in. The Cougars are 8-13 on the season and their 3-1 mark against the WSC leaves them a game out of first and tied with the rival Bulldogs in 2nd place. The Cougars play at Ventura next Tuesday (2:30).
