GLENDORA, Calif. - All four of last year's California Community College Athletic Association Softball State Championship finalists top the 2017 California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association PreseasonCoaches Poll released on Friday.
For the second straight year, College of San Mateo leads the preseason rankings in both the state and for Northern California. Head coach Nicole Borg and her Bulldogs will be seeking their fifth straight trip to Bakersfield College in May. Defending state champion Santiago Canyon College, helmed by head coach Lisa Camarco, wasjust edged by the Bulldogs and held off always strong Cypress College for the top spot in the South Region rankings.
The Hawks will try to become the first repeat state champion since 2012 season when the state's third-ranked and SoCal's second-ranked Chargers finished off a three-peat; head coach Brad Pickler's second such feat in his storied career. Sitting fourth in the state poll and No. 2 in NorCal is last year's state runner-up Sacramento City College, under the guidance of Tim Kiernan. Rounding out the Top 5 in the state is Palomar College. Lacey Craft's crew has shown an affinity for odd-year titles, winning CCCAA Championships in 2013 and 2015.
