Kaitlin Chang hit a solo home run in the second inning and that was all top-ranked College of San Mateo needed to score its 50th consecutive home softball victory Saturday afternoon, 2-0, against visiting Napa Valley College.
The Bulldogs (22-2) added an insurance run in the third frame when Jordan Davis and Harlee Donovan hit back-to-back doubles.
Starting pitcher Samantha Dean struck out two and allowed just three scattered singles over three innings of work. Christy Peterson (6-1) got the win with four innings of hitless relief. As a batter, Peterson also had her 32nd hit (ranking 12th in the state in that category).).
Meagan Wells went 1-for-2 to increase her state lead in hits to 36. She is batting .434 and slugging .542
Donovan continues to lead Northern California with eight home runs this season (and has 28 in her 2-year career). She is one homer short of the season state lead. Donovan also paces Northern California with 31 runs batted in and in slugging percentage, .986.
TARGET 51: The Bulldogs will seek their 51st home win on Saturday, March 19, against Cabrillo College at 11 a.m. – a make-up of last week's rain postponed contest.
--San Mateo is unbeaten on its home field in all games over three seasons, since April 2, 2014.
