Week #5 Players and Pitchers of the Week Announced
The California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association is pleased to announce it's Week #5 Northern California Player and Pitcher of the Week and the Southern California Player and Pitcher of the Week. In the North West Valley College swept the awards as Brianna Massey was named the Pitcher of the Week and Lydia Reyes the Player of the Week. In the South, Citrus College's Miranda Gil was name the Pitcher of the Week, while Santiago Canyon College's McRae Cayton was named the Player of the Week.
Northern California Player of the Week – Lydia Reyes – West Valley College
Reyes was 3-1 on the week with a 3.30 ERA. Reyes had wins against San Jose City College, Gavilan College, and Fresno City College, all teams who are currently ranked in the Northern California Coaches Poll. Against San Jose City, Reyes pitched a complete game, three hit, shutout, four strikeouts. Reyes is a freshman righty for the Vikings.
Northern California Pitcher of the Week – Brianna Massey – West Valley College
Massey hit safely in all six of West Valley College's games during Week #5, including collecting a career high five hits in a 5 for 5 effort against Gavilan College. Massey batted .650 with 6 RBI's, 6 runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases. Massey is a sophomore outfielder for the Vikings.
Southern California Player of the Week – McRae Cayton – Santiago Canyon College
McRae Cayton posted an impressive .500 batting average (3-for-6) in the 5th week of competition. In six at bats, she drove in 6 RBI's, including the game winning RBI against Cypress College. Cayton also hit her third homerun of the year in Week #5. Cayton is a sophomore outfielder out of Irvine, CA where she attended Irvine High School.
Southern California Pitcher of the Week – Miranda Gil – Citrus College
Freshman Miranda Gil was 1-1 in the circle for the Owls during Week #5, falling to State #4 Palomar College despite striking out 10 comet batters. Later in the week, Gil got the win against State #3 Cypress College holding the Chargers to just two hits, while striking out four. Gil also hit in both games, going 2 for 5 with a pair of runs. Gil is a freshman who came to the Owls out of Oak Hills, CA and Oak Hills High School.
