PCC Swim Sweeps Women's Double Dual v. El Camino, Cerritos; El Camino Wins Both In Men

The Pasadena City College women's swim team won 13 of 15 events as the Lancers secured team victories over El Camino, 172-91, and Cerritos, 170-90, Friday in a South Coast Conference double dual meet at PCC's Aquatic Center. El Camino edged Cerritos in the other women's dual, 136-133.
In the men's duals, El Camino swept Cerritos, 160.5-119.5, and Pasadena, 200-63, while Cerritos downed PCC, 210-56.
The Lancers women (5-1 this season, 2nd place currently in the SCC) nearly swept the 14 swim events, losing only the 100-yard breaststroke when Cerritos' Amanda Loya edged PCC's Arolyn Basham, 1:11.32 to 1:11.43. El Camino had the only women's diver, Christy Villasor, who had an outstanding
172.30 to win the 1 & 3-meter board competition.
Lancers' sophomore Shannon Cheung won the 50-freestyle (25.40), the 100-freestyle (57.25) and the 100 individual medley (1:03.70).
Capturing two event wins were Connie Peng in the 50-backstroke (29.30) and 100-backstroke (1:02.60), Tiffany Wong in the 50-butterfly (27.95) and 100-butterfly (1:02.70), Basham in the 200-freestyle (2:03.60) and 50-breaststroke (32.29). Other winners for PCC were Courtney Fukushima in the 500-freestyle
(5:48.13) and Victoria LeFlang in the 1,000-freestyle (12:03.19).
PCC also won the 200 medley relay (2:00.96) and
400 freestyle relay (3:57.58).
El Camino moved to 4-4 in duals and Cerritos dropped to 4-4 as both teams concluded the regular season SCC duals.
In the men's duals, El Camino's Jonathan Diaz scored wins in the 100-backstroke (57.07), 200-backstroke (2:04.52), and 200 IM (2:00.08). Teammate Gregorio Ivan Urueta captured wins in the 100-breaststroke (1:02.57), 200-breaststroke (2:16.94), amd 100-butterfly (55.53).
PCC's Mohammed Esmaeilian won both the 100-freestyle
(48.48) and 200-freestyle (1:49.81).
El Camino improved to 5-2 and Cerritos 4-3 in both finishing the men's dual SCC regular season. Mt. San Antonio leads the SCC in both the men and women standings.
