SanMateo and Mt. San Antonio remain 1-2 in 3C2A football poll; Butte now No. 3
SAN MATEO – Reigning 3C2A state football champion College of San Mateo and runner-up Mt. San Antonio College solidified their 1-2 rankings in the JC Athletic Bureau’s poll for the California community College Football Coaches Association with solid weekend victories.
San Mateo (3-0) remains the clear top pick with 13 first place coaches votes and 349 points after defeating Modesto, 41-21, in a rematch of last season’s NorCal title game. The Bulldogs extended their National Division-leading winning streak to 13 games, dating to a non-league loss to Modesto early in their 12-1 title campaign. SoCal champion Mt. SAC (3-0) received the remaining first place vote and scored 337 points on continue its hold on the runner-up spot, taking down El Camino, 37-27, and dropping them from fifth to tenth in the poll.
Butte (3-0) moved up one place to No. 3 after beating City College of San Francisco, 34-14, and has the state’s third longest win streak at seven games.
Other unbeatens moving up this week include Golden West (to No. 4), Ventura (to No. 5), and Diablo Valley (to No. 6). Monterey Peninsula (3-0 has made a successful move up to the National Division and is in the No. 11 position this week – holding an overall state leading 14-game win streak – dating to its successful 2024 American campaign.
League play begins this week in the Southern California Football Association, with the expansion of its National Division leagues to eight teams each. Key openers: No. 2 Mt. SAC at No. 20 Citrus; No. 4 Golden West at No. 15 Bakersfield; No. 5 Ventura at Moorpark; No. 14 Saddleback at No. 8 Riverside; No. 21 Mt. San Jacinto at No. 9 Southwestern; Chaffey at No. 10 El Camino.
