Rob Hartenfels named head football coach at Reedley College
REEDLEY - A brand-new era of Tiger football is set to begin this summer with the hiring of Rob Hartenfels as the programs’ new head coach. This is a return to campus for Hartenfels, who was the Tigers Associate Head Coach/Running Backs/Tight Ends Coach in 2018 under previous head coach Eric Marty, who left to become the new Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach at Grambling State University after four seasons and five years with Reedley College (2016-2021).
“I’m extremely excited, humbled and blessed for the opportunity to come back to Reedley to a great community college, a great town that supports football and has the mentality of a blue-collar worker,” said Hartenfels. “There’s no other better opportunity than being at Reedley. I’m excited to get going.”
Hartenfels returns to Reedley from San Diego Mesa College, where he was the Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach from 2019–2021. In 2019, the Olympians went 7-3 and were awarded a bid to a bowl game in the Southern Section. In his first stint at Reedley College, Hartenfels helped guide the Tigers to a 10-1 record, American Golden Coast Conference Division Championship and a berth in the American Division Championship Bowl Game. Hartenfels also has coaching experience at Division II Quincy University (Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach), East Los Angeles College (Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach), Occidental College (Defensive Backs Coach/Recruiting Coordinator/Special Teams Coordinator) and Oaks Christian High School (Cornerbacks Coach/Special Teams Coordinator), where he won a CIF Southern Section title in 2010. Hartenfels has also been an assistant coach and operations staff member for the Army All-American Game for the past ten years.
A Northeastern Pennsylvania native, Hartenfels was a defensive back at Division II East Stroudsburg University, serving as a team captain before leaving early to pursue his coaching career in Southern California. He later graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Management and also owns a Masters Degree in Exercise Science from Concordia University of Chicago.
