SAN MATEO – The planned PG&E power shutoff to parts of the City of San Mateo on Saturday has necessitated a change in the location for an important football game to Oakland between the College of San Mateo and defending state champion Laney College. College of San Mateo has announced the weekend closure for the campus.
CSM (6-0, 1-0 Bay 6), top-ranked in the state and nation among community college football teams, will now play Bay 6 co-leader and defending CCCAA champion Laney College (3-3, 1-0) at 1 p.m. at the Eagles’ campus stadium in Oakland. CSM will remain the home team.
San Mateo’s campus, including College Heights Stadium, will likely lose power early Saturday, according to plans announced Friday by PG&E.
The game is one of three affected by the planned power shutoffs. Foothill College's 1 p.m. game against College of the Redwoods has been moved to the Redwoods' campus from Humbold State while Shasta College's matchup with Feather River has been moved up four hours to 2 p.m.
This is the second CSM-Laney game in a row that has been impacted by wildfire/PG &E issues. The Nov. 17, 2018 state playoff game between CSM had to be moved to Cabrillo College in Aptos due to poor air quality from wildfires. Laney won that game, 14-0, and went onto take the CCCAA state championship
This will leave 3-time Bay 6 League champion San Mateo with only one home league game this season – on Nov. 9, against Chabot College.
Saturday’s game will still be streamed live, starting at 12:50 p.m. on baosn.tv;
--available on AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire, and Android TV.
