College of the Canyons, Riverside City take unbeaten records and top two places in CCCSIA poll into final week
SACRAMENTO - A chance for undefeated regular seasons and big momentum heading into the postseason ride on the shoulders of College of the Canyons and Riverside City College, who own the top positions in this week's California Community College Sports Information Poll. Both teams will face ranked opponents at home in their quest to go to 10-0.
Canyons (9-0) will host No. 18 Bakersfield (6-3) while Riverside (9-0) will entertain No. 17 Saddleback (6-3). Those games will play a large part in how the SoCal Playoff brackets are determined this weekend while No. 4 College of San Mateo (7-2) hosts No. 9 City College of San Francisco (7-2) in a National Bay 6 showdown that will have big implications in the NorCal postseason. San Mateo is currently 5-0 in league play while CCSF is 4-1, the same as No. 5 Laney (7-2) which has an important game of its own on Friday against Chabot.
After Canyons and Riverside, Butte (8-1) holds down the No. 3 spot in this week's poll and is followed by San Mateo and Laney in the top five. Fresno City (7-2) and Ventura (7-2) are tied for sixth with Fullerton (0-9 due to SCFA sanctions), City College of San Francisco and Chaffey (9-1) complete the top 10. El Camino (7-2), Modesto (6-3), Reedley (9-0), San Bernardino Valley (8-1), Allan Hancock (8-1), De Anza (8-1), Saddleback (6-3), Bakersfield (9-3), Hartnell (8-1), and Santa Rosa (5-4) and Cerritos (5-4) finish the rankings.
El Camino against Cerritos, and Reedley against Hartnell highlight other ranked matchups on Saturday.
