Cabrillo no match for undefeated West Hills Coalinga
APTOS >> The Cabrillo College football team fell behind by seven touchdowns in its final home game of the regular season and never came back, falling to top-ranked West Hills Coalinga 57-14 at Carl Conelly Stadium on Saturday night.
Quarterback Freddy Taliulu threw for three touchdowns and D'Anthony Cross ran for two more as West Hills jumped out to a 48-0 halftime lead.
The Seahawks on their opening drive fumbled inside the Falcons' 10-yard line, and Tashad Charity recovered the loose football and returned it 91 yards for the game's first score.
Cabrillo didn't find the scoreboard until 3:20 remained in the third quarter. Quarterback Brenden Davis hit Dominic Bonner on a 17-yard scoring pass to end the shutout.
Demetri Hodge-Campos broke off a 76-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter for the Seahawks' second score.
Hodge-Campos finished with 101 yards on six attempts, and Davis threw for 190 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions on 22-of-38 passing. Yoshio Hasegawa had five receptions for a team-high 45 yards for Cabrillo (1-7, 1-4), which will be on the road the next two weeks to close out the regular season.
The Seahawks will travel north to take on San Jose City College (3-5, 2-3) next Saturday at 3 p.m.
West Hills (8-0, 4-0), ranked No. 1 in the Northern California American Division by the California Community College Athletic Association, will host Merced (4-4, 3-1) Saturday at 1 p.m.
Taliulu completed 8-of-9 passes for 162 yards and spread the ball to seven receivers, including scoring passes to Ryan Fila (37 yards), Anthony Mahoungou (9) and Tyron Jones (8).
Jones added a 1-yard rushing touchdown to go along with 40 yards on the ground. Robert Brown led the Falcons with 102 yards and a score on nine carries, while Cross finished with 13 attempts for 66 yards.
The Falcons totaled 465 yards of offense, including 283 yards on the ground. Cabrillo had 322 yards of offense.
Jordan Smith provided the lone takeaway for the Seahawks when he recovered a loose football early in the third quarter.
West Hills forced five turnovers, including three interceptions.
