Butte College Roadrunners Battle West Valley Vikings in Three-Game Road Series
The Butte College Roadrunners traveled to Saratoga to face the West Valley Vikings in a challenging three-game series that featured plenty of offense, momentum swings, and resilience. After dropping the first two contests, the Roadrunners closed the weekend on a high note with a convincing win in the finale.
Game 1 – February 5, 2026
West Valley 13, Butte 12
Butte wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard in the series opener. Collin Severson and Kolby Stolpe both drew walks to open the game before a Jason Klapper single loaded the bases. Severson later scored on a passed ball to give the Roadrunners an early 1–0 lead.
In the second inning, AJ Perrin singled and was driven home by Severson with two outs. The Roadrunners then erupted for six runs in the third inning. Klapper led off with a single, and a West Valley error put runners on first and second. After a wild pitch moved both runners up, Jack Howsley brought in Klapper with a sacrifice fly. Brady Alves followed with a single to score Riley Pimentel, and with the bases loaded Severson was hit by a pitch to force in another run. Stolpe then delivered the biggest swing of the inning, clearing the bases with a double.
Butte continued to apply pressure throughout the game. In the fourth inning, Kenser Day was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score another run. Severson drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to add to the lead, and Alves drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Klapper capped the Roadrunners' scoring in the eighth with an RBI single.
Despite the offensive output, West Valley—coming off a 2025 3C2A Final Four appearance—was able to outlast Butte in a high-scoring back-and-forth contest to take the opener, 13–12.
Game 2 – February 6, 2026
West Valley 17, Butte 3
Game two saw West Valley jump out quickly, scoring 12 runs over the first three innings to take control early. Butte was limited offensively but managed to get on the board in the second inning when Severson doubled home a run. In the third, Alves added a sacrifice fly to score another Roadrunner run. West Valley's early surge proved too much to overcome, as the Vikings cruised to a 17–3 win.
Game 3 – February 7, 2026
Butte 10, West Valley 5
After dropping the first two games of the series, Butte responded with a strong and complete performance in the finale. The Roadrunners struck for three runs in the first inning as Severson and Pimentel opened the game with walks. Klapper brought in the first run with a sacrifice fly, a wild pitch allowed Pimentel to score, and Howsley added an RBI single.
Butte added two more runs in the second inning. AJ Perrin doubled to start the frame, Severson walked, and Pimentel singled in Perrin. Tyler Porter followed with a double to score Severson.
The Roadrunners put the game out of reach in the fifth inning with a five-run outburst. Klapper doubled, Porter singled, and Stolpe doubled to score both runners. Howsley then doubled in Stolpe, and Perrin singled to put runners on the corners before Daevion Lindsay scored Howsley to cap the inning.
In the eighth, Porter doubled home Pimentel for Butte's final run of the day.
On the mound, Brayden Bruno led the way with six solid innings, giving the Roadrunners a steady start. Nate Simonton closed the door in relief to earn the save as Butte secured the 10–5 victory.
Series Notes
Butte's offense was led by Jacob Klapper, who went 6-for-10 with four walks and a hit by pitch, scoring four runs in the series. Riley Pimentel finished 5-for-11 with four runs scored, while Brady Alves went 5-for-12 with three RBIs. Collin Severson also had a strong series, leading the Roadrunners with five runs scored.
The Roadrunners showed grit and offensive depth throughout the series, finishing the weekend with a statement win heading into matchup Monday at Yuba College and a weekend series with College of Marin at John B. Cowan Park on the Butte College campus.
