San Joaquin Delta takes over No. 1 in SIA Baseball Top 20
PASADENA - The Big 8 Conference has emerged this week as the state's top division as defending CCCAA champion San Joaquin Delta is No. 1 as part of six Big 8 teams on the second 2019 California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) State Top 20 Baseball Rankings.
Delta (21-4) moved from No. 2 receiving nine of the 16 first-place votes as the Mustangs have won eight straight. The other Big 8 squads are Sierra at #5, Santa Rosa at #10, Sacramento City at #12, Cosumnes River at #14, and Modesto tied for #20. The teams are a combined 112-37 for a sizzling .752 win percentage.
While previous state #1 Orange Coast (20-5-1) fell two spots to #3, fellow Orange Empire Conference power Riverside City, 21-4, grabbed five first-place votes and jumped from #6 to No. 2 in the rankings. The OEC is well represented in this week's ratings with Cypress at #9, Santa Ana moving up four spots to #13, and Golden West tied at #20.
With the two other first-place votes, Feather River, owning the most victories in the state with 24, is at #4 while two other red-hot NorCal teams busted their way on to the top in No. 7 Mission (jumped three slots after winning 10 of its last 11) and No. 8 Ohlone, a leap of seven spots behind a current 10-game win streak. In the South, formidable El Camino fell three spots to No. 6.
Five new teams joined the top 20 in #11 Fresno City (8-game win streak), #15 Palomar, #17 Butte, #18 Glendale and #19 San Diego Mesa.
Pasadena City, fresh off a 3-game sweep over Chaffey (went from No. 9 to not making this week's ratings), climbed three on the ladder to No. 16.
