STOCKTON - The San Joaquin Delta College baseball team was able to beat the rain and fit a game in Sunday afternoon. Thanks to their fiverun bottom of the ninth, the Mustangs were able to beat L.A. Mission too.
Dillon Tatum's walkoff single capped Delta's last-chance comeback, giving the Mustangs a 7-6 win over LA Mission at Delta College.
Anthony Lucchetti, Vinny Bologna and Jimmy McClenaghan all had doubles on the day for Delta (6-1), and the trio of Andrew Scheinert, Jose Holguin and Miguel Marin each had two hits.
Tatum only had the one hit, but it was the biggest of the day for the Mustangs. They entered the ninth trailing 6-2, needing four to keep playing and five to win.
They chose the latter, starting with three straight doubles that drove in two. Blake Dickman then reached on an error and, after a fly out, Bryce Mitchell singled to load the bases.
Bryan Rosario dug into the box and proceeded to single, driving in one. Mathis flew out to right, allowing another Mustang to score to tie the game. Then, Tatum delivered the winning hit.
Tyler Condie started the game on the mound for Delta, tossing four innings while striking out six and allowing one run. LA Mission scored three times in the seventh and twice in the eighth to build its lead.
The Mustangs will host the College of San Mateo at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
