BORTOLIN'S 2 RBI HIT SPARKS 8-RUN CSM 3rd IN DEANZA SHOWDOWN.
Angelo Bortolin had a 2-RBI single to start an 8-run third inning as College of San Mateo reversed an early 2-0 deficit with 15 unanswered runs to win its first place Coast Golden Gate Conference baseball showdown with visiting De Anza College, 15-2, on Thursday.
It was the fifth straight win for CSM (17-4, 5-0 Golden Gate). De Anza (11-9, 3-1) had scored two runs in the first inning before the Bulldogs took control.
San Mateo got one run back in the second inning, then exploded in the third frame. After Bortolin's single brought home Anders Green and Everett Lau, Brandon Hernandez doubled in Bortolin. Nick Adgar doubled to left to score Hernandez and R.J. Prince.
Hernandez had three hits in the game -- including two doubles -- scored three times, and had two RBIs. Chris Papapietro had two hits and three RBIs. Adgar also had three RBIs. Prince ended up scoring three times – drawing three walks (and had a hit).
Undefeated pitcher Dalton Gomez (4-0) went 5 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking just one batter for the win.
--Although it was De Anza's home game, the contest had to be moved to San Mateo's all-weather field since the Dons temporary facility became unavailable. A total of 44 players participated in the nearly 4-hour contest, 26 for De Anza.
--CSM is No. 7 in the state in the current Massey ratings.
