Tigers Top Host Orange Coast, 4-1, and Saddleback, 5-0

COSTA MESA -- Winning a pair of Orange Empire Conference (OEC) matches last Friday (Mar. 18), the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's beach (sand) volleyball squad is .500 after the first two weeks of the season of the conference schedule.
Riverside City (4-2 overall, 2-2 OEC) defeated the host Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates, 4-1, and then blanked the Saddleback College Gauchos, 5-0.
The Tiger tandems of (No. 1) frosh Sabrina Gonzaga and Marissa Vialpando and (No. 3)Lauren Wells and Yaneli Fernandez -- who is pictured in the foreground -- both posted wins against OCC and Saddleback.
Gonzaga/Vialpando won, 21-15, 21-7, against OCC's Dayelle Brown and Alyssa Assayag, and won, 21-11, 21-17, over Saddleback's Morgan Hocker and Chasticy Gonzales.
Wells/Fernandez won, 21-16, 13-21, 15-8, against OCC's Diana Che and Tiffany Boykin, and won, 21-7, 21-6, over Saddleback's Keanalyn Wolford and Sophia McCormick.
The Tigers are led by first-year RCC head women's beach volleyball coach Jamie Hofman.
Riverside will continue regular season action on Friday, Mar. 25, when it revisits South Mission Beach in San Diego and again meets the host San Diego City College (SDCC) Knights and the Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) Eagles in a non-conference twin-bill beginning at 11 a.m.
