West Valley alone at the top of CCCWPCA poll; Long Beach women are tops for fifth straight week
SARATOGA - The much anticipated Oct. 18 battle of men’s water polo behemoths, Golden West and West Valley, at the Cerritos Mini did not disappoint. WVC broke an 8-8 tie after three quarters with a 4-1 fourth to pull away from the Rustlers 12-9. The win also helped the Vikings break a week-seven deadlock with GWC atop the CCCWPCA Top Ten poll and assume the top spot in the week eight rankings. The Long Beach City men also made some noise, beating West Valley Oct. 19 to extend its state-best winning streak to ten.
The CCCWPCA coaches voted the Long Beach City women #1 for the 5th consecutive week, ahead, once again, of Riverside City, Santa Barbara City and Sierra. The Vikings topped #2 RCC, #6 WVC and #8 San Diego Miramar to stretch their winning streak over 3C2A opponents to 21. There was plenty of shuffling in spots five through ten, with four teams, including newcomer Ventura, in new positions.
