ARC Reaches Seventh Consecutive NorCal Championship Match With Win Over Gladiators

ARC-5 Chabot-0
Overall: 14-4 Conference: 7-0

In the NorCal semifinals, the Beavers took on the Chabot College Gladiators. They had played earlier in the season, with the Beavers earning a 9-0 victory, in a match that was much more competitive than the score indicated. On this occasion it would be another highly competitive match, with the Beavers playing well in the big moments, to earn the 5-0 team victory. ARC played great in the doubles, hitting the court with excellent energy and great decision-making. At #1 Guenard/Hall took on the highly rated team of Wen/Yap from Chabot. The Beavers #1 tandem took the lead early with an early break and never looked back, closing the match out 8-3. At #2 doubles Kodiji/Luu had back and forth match against Pandit/Truong. Eventually the Beavers were able to earn the break when the Gladiators served at 6-7, giving the Beavers the 8-6 win. At #3 doubles Erwin/Lum took another early lead, before the Gladiators fought back with a strategy adjustment. Showing great grit and determination, the Beavers regrouped and closed the match out with a break of serve to earn the 8-4 victory.

The singles started out rough for ARC. They lost the first set at #1 (Kodiji), #3 (Hall), and #4 Erwin. Thankfully Stephen Guenard (#2) and Tommy Luu (#5) played nearly flawless tennis to close the match out and give the Beavers the 5-0 victory. Archie Ghasemi (#6) had just split sets when the clinch was earned by Guenard.

The Beavers will face off for the NorCal championship against the Foothill College Owls at Foothill on Saturday, 4/20 at 1:00p. The same two teams will now have faced each other in 5 of the last 7 NorCal championships. The Beavers and Owls have split the previous 4 meetings.
