No. 12 Dons Outlast COD with 1-0 Win, Enter Conference Play Undefeated

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Leyna Wood scored her ninth goal of the season as the No. 12 Dons outlasted College of the Desert (2-3) by a score of 1-0 on Friday to stay undefeated.

The only goal of the match came in the 68th minute when Santa Ana was awarded a free kick from just across midfield.

Freshman midfielder Mya Rodriguez stepped up to take it, sending a ball into the box to give Wood a good opportunity. Wood finished play to lift the Dons to another win while keeping herself in the top five in the state for goals scored.

Goalkeeper Stephanie Hernandez walked away with yet another shutout, giving her four consecutive and five in total.

With the win, the Dons finish the preseason with an undefeated record of 6-0. The Dons will get their biggest challenge of the season as they begin Orange Empire Conference by hosting No. 5 Santiago Canyon (3-0-1) on Tuesday, October 1st at 3:00 p.m.
