EXCITING GAME FALLS SHORT FOR FC

The FC football team had its home opener spoiled by crosstown rival Cerritos College on Saturday falling to the Falcons in a close one 32-24.

With only 10 miles of freeway separating the two proud programs, a local rivalry began in 1959. Including tonight, the Falcons and Hornets have played one another 46 times with FC leading the series 25-18-3.

It was another exciting game that came down to the final three minutes. Fullerton was trailing 25-24 and had just stopped a Falcon drive that went 9 plays for 44 yards with the ball on its own 38-yardline. The Cerritos defense held off what seemed to be the start of a surging Hornet offensive drive that sputtered out their own 40-yardline. With two minutes left and Fullerton with all three of its timeouts, the Falcons shocked the entire stadium on the first play from scrimmage on a 60-yard run for a touchdown by running back Davon Booth, who found an opening off the left edge taking all the way down the sideline to paydirt.

Still with their three timeouts and two minutes to spare, the Hornets fell victim yet again to the Falcon defense as they intercepted Josh Calvin's pass to seal the game.

The bright spot of the night for Fullerton was its running game led by Tyrell Greene Jr., who had 13 carries for 161 yards (12.4 yards per carry). On defense, Chris Harm led the Hornets with 10 tackles.

Up Next: The Hornets (1-1 overall) will hit the road next Saturday, September 17th when they travel to College of the Canyons. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm.
