Citrus College tried to put a comeback together late Wednesday afternoon, but couldn't send its runners home to drop a close 2-1 loss to San Bernardino Valley College.

The Fighting Owls drop to 6-5 overall, while the Wolverines improve to 4-7 on the year.

Jack Strickland and Go Hattori each led the Owl offense with 2-for-4 appearances at the plate, with Andrew Duran scoring the solo run.

Down 2-0 after the first three innings, Duran walked aboard with one out. Strickland singled to push Duran to second, allowing him to round third and touch home on Hattori's RBI single.

The Owls put together a comeback in the top of the ninth, loading up the bases with two outs. Citrus couldn't send the tying run home, however, to end the game 2-1.

Samuel Gomez pitched five strong innings for the Owls after coming in on relief and struck out six batters without allowing a run.
