Women's Water Polo: Citrus Goes 1-1 in Home Stand

Women's Water Polo hosted San Joaquin Delta and Santa Barbara City College for a pair of matches on Thursday. The games were the first two home games of the season for the red hot Owls.

Citrus faced off against WSC Conference rival Santa Barbara in the first match. The teams matched up well, and the game was back and forth for most of the first half. But near the end of the 2nd quarter, Santa Barbara picked up their pace and pulled away from Citrus. The score at halftime would be 3-6 with the Vaqueros in the lead. The spread would remain in tact for the 2nd half and the visitors locked in the win, 9-6. Rachel Sherman led the Owls with 3 goals in the match, and Francesca Vargas, Cameron Schween, and Lauren Olivier each chipped in a goal. Goalie Dynalee Huerta posted 8 saves in the effort.

The 2nd match for the Owls was against San Joaquin Delta, who the Citrus had played last week in the River Rage Tournament in Sacramento. The Owls took that first meeting 11-6, and the 2nd match would end with the same result with the Owls winning 11-6 again. Sherman once again led in scoring, this time outscoring all players in the pool with 5 goals. Goalie Kate Carlyle recorded 9 saves.

The Owls move to 5-1 in 2019. The next matches for them will be in Riverside Friday and Saturday for a 4 match stand. Today's matches area against Orange Coast and Long Beach. Tomorrow the Owls play Cerritos and Golden West.
