Remove the first inning of the Cerritos College softball game against Cypress College at Nancy Kelly Field on Wednesday and the outcome of the game might have been different. The Falcons (2-3) committed three errors, which led to two of the three Chargers (5-0) runs in the inning, with the end result being a 5-0 setback. The team will travel to Ventura College for a noon contest.

Already trailing 3-0, Cerritos opened the bottom of the first inning with sophomore Richere Leduc (California HS) lacing a single to right-center field. She was cut down on a fielder's choice, while the Falcons looked to create more offense and the game progressed. Freshman outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) clubbed a one-out double and advanced to third base where she was stranded.

Sophomore pitcher Courtney Callison (Santa Fe HS) came on in the first to end the inning and went on to toss 4 2/3 innings and allowed three singles and no runs. She pitched very well in each inning and went on to strike out three batters.

The Falcons advanced a runner to second base in the third inning, but sophomore second baseman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) was stranded, while they looked to have gotten on the board in the sixth inning. Freshman outfielder Marley Manalo (Walnut HS) drove a shot into the right-center gap and ended up on second base after Chargers outfielder Cameron Curiel dropped the ball. A base hit by sophomore shortstop Miranda Diaz (California HS) put runners on first and third base. Macias followed by flying out to deep centerfield, but Manalo did not tag up and score. Cerritos finished the day with four hits.
