Win streak reaches ten after Vikings sweep Sierra

For the second time in three days, a battle between two of the state's superpowers came down a third and deciding match in the 1's pairs. And, just as they did against Feather River May 19, West Valley's Taylor Tullo and Katie Kishton pulled off the reverse sweep to give WVC a 3-2 win over Sierra Friday afternoon in Saratoga.

The win, coupled with a 4-1 victory in Friday's early match, was WVC's tenth straight, setting the stage for a May 28 match at 10-0 Cabrillo in Santa Cruz. While Tullo/Kishton provided the match-winner, West Valley's 2's, 3's and 4's were crucial to the Viking sweep over the Wolverines (7-5).

Alina Valenti and Elia Dueñas opened the first wave with a huge 21-16, 22-20 win over Sierra's Ashley Almond and Hannah Platt in the 2's, while Della Trimble and Camdyn Albrecht held off Sierra Kimm and Bekah McGill 22-20, 21-14 in the 3's. Those wins were critical after Sydney Rogers/Ailish O'Deegan and Belen Morgan/Kate Blackwell fell in the 4's and 5's. Tullo and Kishton and Sierra's Abby Schimmel and Kalaya Sanchez battled back and forth before the Viking pair emerged with the epic 21-23, 22-20, 15-13 clincher.

It was a big 4's win for Rogers/O'Deegan that propelled WVC to the 4-1 win in the opening match. After dropping the opening set 21-18 to Sierra's Hailee Mulic and Azraya Willis, Rogers and O'Deegan rallied for 21-16 and 15-11 victories in the second and third sets. Their win gave WVC an almost insurmountable 2-0 lead heading to the second wave. Dueñas/Valenti took care of Almond/Platt 21-19, 21-11 in the 2's, while Trimble/Albrecht were huge with a tense 21-16, 14-21, 15-13 win over Kimm/McGill in the 3's. Tullo/Kishton cruised in the 1's, sweeping Schimmel/Sanchez 21-15, 21-14.
