COD Women's Tennis opens up 2023 season pushing past Rio Hondo, 6-3

COD (1-0; 1-0) kicked off the 2023 season with a South Coast Conference win over the Rio Hondo Roadrunners of Whittier (3-2; 0-1), 6-3.

In doubles play, the 1's team of freshman Hana Moss (National City Sweetwater Union) and freshman Maryn Patek (Palm Desert H.S.) won easily, 8-1. The 2's team of freshman Abigaile Corado (Norwalk John Glenn) and freshman Ayano Tsuchiya (Yokohoma (JPN) Yokohoma Hayato) took down Rio Hondo in a tougher match, 8-4. The 3's team of freshman Mavie Stoll (Usingen (GER) Christian-Wirth-Schule) and freshman Naylea Torres (Indio H.S.) struggled and fell short, 8-2.

In singles play, Corado and Stoll lost in straight sets. Moss, Patek, Tsuchiya and Torres all won in straight sets.

The next match for College of the Desert Women's Tennis will be at the Mt. San Antonio Mounties of Walnut, where the Roadrunners will continue South Coast Conference (SCC) play on February 21st at 2p. The next home match for College of the Desert Women's Tennis will be hosting the Glendale Vaqueros on February 24th at 1p.

College of the Desert defeated Rio Hondo College, 6-3 in South Coast Conference play at College of the Desert in Palm Desert.
