WEST & NIKCHEVICH WIN WSC SINGLES AND DOUBLES TITLES

Nicole West started Day 4 of the WSC Championships wining the finals 6-4, 6-2 over LAMC's Anna Kynclova to capture the WSC Singles Title.  This was the third meeting of the top two players in the WSC with West prevailing in each meeting.   West, the no. 1 ranked player in the WSC, is now 3-0 against Kynclova, the no. 2 ranked player in the WSC.   West defeated Kynclova 6-4, 3-6 (10-8) on February 22, 2022 at LAMC and 6-3, 6-3 on March 22, 2022 at SMC.

After singles play, West and  Kai Nikchevich won a semifinal match against McClain and Nguyen from Ventura, 6-0, 6-0. 

The championship final round, pitted West and Nikchevich against Kynclova and Cornejo from LAMC for the third time this season.  In the previous two meetings West and Nikchevic had won both times by the identical score of 8-5.   Today, West and Nikchevich jumped out to a 5-0 lead and dropped the next 2 games to make it 5-2.  West and Nikchevich then shifted into high gear winning the next 7 straight games to capture the WSC Doubles Title with a 6-2, 6-0 win.    En route to their doubles titles West and Nikchevich lost only 2 games in the entire tournament with 8 out of 9 sets ending in bagels for the undefeated Corsair duo.

 

NOTES:

West is now 16-0 in singles.

Nikchevich is 14-2 in singles.

West/Nikchevich remain undefeated in doubles with a 15-0 record.

NEXT UP:

West and Nikchevich travel to the Southern California Regional Playoffs at Cypress College, April 29-April 30, 2022.   West and Nikchevich will play both singles and doubles as they vie to advance to the State Championships, May 6-7, 2022 at Mt. San Antonio College.
