Citrus College kept its unbeaten streak alive Wednesday, grabbing a 16-12 victory over CalTech.

With the win, the Owls improve to 5-0 on the year while the Beavers drop to 0-2.

Ian Tauer scored three goals in the first period to help Citrus jump out to a 4-3 lead after the first eight minutes of action.

CalTech evened things up 4-4 to start the second, but a pair of goals from Jullian Nicholas kept the Owls in front. Abram Villegas also got in on the scoring action to increase the Owls' lead to 7-5 at halftime.

Citrus went on a 4-1 run in the third to create some separation, 11-6. Nicholas scored two goals, while Tauer and Villegas also rattled in goals during the scoring spree.

After CalTech scored in the final 30 seconds of the third, Citrus scored four consecutive goals to take its largest lead of the night, 16-8. Peter Herrera, Matty Roebuck, Tauer, and Breck Weiny fueled the 4-0 spurt.

The Beavers tried to put together a comeback late in the final quarter and scored four unanswered goals of their own but it wasn't enough to overcome the Owls.

Matteo Velasquez had eight saves in the cage for the Owls.

Citrus heads to the Mt. SAC Tournament this weekend, taking on Rio Hondo first before facing El Camino College for the second time this year. The Owls previously beat the Warriors 20-8.
