Pirates keep on winning with 15-9 win over Saddleback

COSTA MESA -- The magical 2021 season of the Orange Coast College women's water polo team continues to cruise right along after the Pirates rolled past visiting Saddleback, 15-9, on Wednesday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

The win improved the Pirates' record to 13-1 overall, 2-0 in the OEC. The loss drops the Bobcats to 1-11, 0-4.

OCC took advantage of its depth and wore down the short-staffed Bobcats, jumping out to a 9-2 lead at the end of the first half.

It was smooth sailing for the Pirates the rest of the way as the lead grew to 15-5 before Saddleback showed a strong effort all the way down to the final whistle with a five-goal fourth quarter.

Kendall Chrisman led the Pirate offense with four goals, while Journey Werner and Destiny Hernandez each added three. Rachel Sherman tacked on two goals of her own, while single tallies were turned in by Leslie Casas, Delaney Lewellyn and Alaire Thomas

Taylor McGrath came up with nine saves to pick up the win for the Pirates, their 11th in a row.

Coast will return to action on Thursday at Cypress College, beginning at 4 p.m.
