Kenzie Garrison had 21 kills on Saturday but it wasn't enough as SBCC dropped its first two women's volleyball matches in the Bakersfield Quad.

San Diego City beat Santa Barbara 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20) and Bakersfield recorded a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-17).

Garrison, a 5-9 outside hitter from Sun Valley, Idaho, had a double-double in the first match with 10 kills and 10 digs. Kate Richardson added nine kills and Jacque Ortegon had eight. Lexi Michaelson led in digs with 13. Garrison, Danielle Hewitt and Emma Esparza added 10 apiece.

Hewitt, a freshman setter from Aptos, had 27 assists in the San Diego match and 18 vs. Bakersfield. Garrison collected 11 kills vs. the Renegades and Jenny Sims had four. Esparza was the dig leader with 16, followed by Hewitt with 10 and Ashley Albee with nine.

"We're a very young team with a new freshman setter," said coach Ed Gover, who's starting his 28th year at the helm.

The Vaqueros will host four-team quad tournaments the next two Saturdays. On Sept. 8, they'll take on Pasadena at 11 a.m. and Long Beach at 3 p.m.
