Eagle Women's Basketball Wins Two on the Road

The MSJC women's basketball team picked up two road wins last week as they squeezed by Fullerton on Tuesday and won going away Wednesday at Grossmont.

The Eagles were in a battle on Tuesday night in Fullerton as they trailed by 5 after the first period and at the half.  In the third quarter MSJC seized control of the game as they out scored the Hornets 19-12 to take a 2 point lead into the final 10 minutes.  The Eagles then locked in defensively as they held Fullerton to just 8 points in the final period to win the game 58-51.

Haylei Janssens continued her hot start to the season as she finished the night with 19 points,17 rebounds, and 5 assists to lead the way for MSJC.  Mariah Sanchez and Haley Suarez both came off the bench to reach double figures in scoring with Sanchez netting 11 points and Suarez 10.  De'Adra Ross aided the defensive effort with 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots in the victory.  Diamonere Butler also pulled in 9 boards.

On Wednesday the Eagles got off to a fast start at Grossmont as they built a lead of 28-6 after one quarter and 50-12 by halftime.  MSJC would go on to win the game by a final score of 83-35.  Sanchez led all scorers in the game with 19, while Deja Blue added 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and a pair of assists.  Janssens also finished with double figures in scoring with 11 and Janya Smith added 13 on 5 of 9 shooting off the bench.  In all the Eagles got 43 points off the bench in the win.

The Eagles are now 5-2 on the season and will return to action on Friday and Saturday when they travel to the Panther Pride Cross-over in Rancho Cucamonga.  Friday MSJC will take on Skyline College at 5 pm and Saturday the Eagles will play LA Southwest at 1 pm.  Both games will be played at Chaffey College.  The Eagles next home game is Wednesday December 11th when they host Copper Mountain at 5 pm.
