WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: ORANGE CRUSHING IT

The Lady Hornets continued their winning ways at home Wednesday night handing Orange Coast College a 78-56 loss.

Riding a five-game win streak, the Hornets are tied for third place with Riverside in the Orange Empire Conference at 5-2. FC's overall record stands at 13-8.  OCC's defeat bumps them to 2-5 in the OEC with an overall record of 2-15.

The opening minutes of the first quarter did not go Fullerton's way as they spotted the Pirates 7 points. FC found their groove by the 4th minute taking their first lead (10-7) on a three-pointer by Moriah Serrano. By the end of the quarter, the Hornets owned a 21-15 lead.

The second quarter belonged to Fullerton as they manufactured a 12-point lead (41-29) at 1:30 that was capped off by a jumper by Hannah Jones.

Fullerton got stronger as the game moved into the fourth quarter taking their largest lead of the game at 76-54 thanks to a layup by Fia Taillele-Latu.

FC shot 40% from the floor and knocked 85.7% of their free throws (12-14).  It was a good night underneath the basket for the Hornets who out-rebounded the Pirates 53-36.

Tristian Johns had a team-high 22 points for Fullerton with 8 rebounds. She was 3 for 5 from beyond the arc and 3 for 3 at the line. Moriah Serrano put up 16 points with 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Three Hornets dropped in 11 points each in Hannah Jones, Katie Salas, and Lyneya Turner. Fia Tailele-Latu contributed 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

Up Next: Fullerton (13-8 overall, 5-2 OEC) hits the road for a rematch against Riverside City College this Friday, February 1st. Game time is at 7:00 pm.
