Comets prevail for 8-4 win over PCC

PASADENA, CA (1/31/2020) – Despite allowing the first opposition runs of the season, the Palomar College softball team came away with an 8-4 road victory over Pasadena City College for the Comets' third victory in as many games.

Four Palomar batters collected three hits apiece at Robinson Park to spark a 17-hit assault against two PCC pitchers. Sophomore right fielder Samantha Renteria slugged two doubles and a single, freshman designated player Jaiden Kent drove in two runs with three singles, while sophomore left fielder Leatumalama Unutoa and freshman second baseman Maddie Loperena each had a double and two singles.

Winning pitcher Cat Aguilar improved her record to 2-0 with seven innings of work in the circle. The sophomore right-hander allowed four runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. When the Lancers scored in the bottom of the second inning, it was the first run allowed by Palomar pitching after 13 scoreless innings and a pair of shutouts to start the season.

The Comets took control with three runs in each of the second and third innings to build a 6-1 lead over the Lancers. Sophomore third baseman Shea Lane hit an RBI double in the third and added a run-scoring single in the seventh inning.

Palomar will be on the road again on Tuesday, Feb. 4, for another nonconference matchup against Santa Ana before returning to San Marcos for a home game against Citrus on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
