#19 Football Defeats #8 Butte in an Instant Classic
The #19 American River College Football program hosted #8 Butte College in a thrilling conference match on Saturday, October 22nd.
Riding a two game winning streak, the Beavers would jump out to the early 7-0 lead on 27 yard pass from Kenneth Lueth to R. Freeman. Butte would tie the game at 7-7 later in the in the first quarter.
The second quarter would present the same back and forth action as the Beavers would retake the lead on a 12 yard pass from Matt Carlise to Ian Simpson. Butte would respond with a 2 yard touchdown run, but would miss the extra point giving the Beavers a 14-13 lead going into halftrime.
Butte College would take their first lead of the game in the third quarter on a 1 yard touchdown run. However the Beavers would add a pair of touchdowns by Ian Simpson from Kenneth Lueth and Matt Carlisle respectively to give the Beavers a 27-19 lead late in the fourth quarter.
Butte College would score on a 13 yard touchdown pass with under two minutes left in the game, but would miss the two point conversion. Holding onto a slim 27-25 lead, Butte would attempt and recover the onside kick with just over a minute left in the game.
However, a Butte College quarterback scramble would lead to the Beaver defense forcing a critical fumble and recovering to give the Beaers the ball back.
Butte would get the back for one final possesion, but a long field goal attempt to win the game would fail. The Beavers would win 27-25 and move to 2-0 in conference play.
The Beavers will be back in action on Saturday, October 29th, as they travel to play Santa Rosa Junior College at 5 PM.
