Tuesday came fairly fast for the Hawks who just came off a very difficult week of baseball losing 2 out of 3 in their first Big 8 series of the year. The task Tuesday was large and large I mean by playing Delta JC on their home field. The Hawks (9-8, 2-2 Big 8) most consistent strike thrower Freshman Troy Rice (Capital Christian HS) got the call for Tuesday match up against the highly ranked Mustangs. The offense again struck at the right time. After going 1, 2, 3 in the top half of the first, Sophomore Henry Degnan (El Cerrito HS) hit a booming home run on a 93 mph fastball to leftfield to get things started for the Hawks on the day.

The 3rd inning saw more of the same as the Mustangs starter struggled to throw strikes as he walked the first two hitters in the bottom of the Hawks lineup and then a big 2 RBI triple from Freshman OF Lakeal Morris (2x5 3B 2 RBI's). Then Sophomore Brett Graber (Capital Christian HS) knocked Morris in to give the Hawks a 4-3 lead and a lead that they would not surrender the rest of the day.

The Hawks had a huge uplifting relief outing from third year Sophomore Jorge Garcia (Consumnes Oaks) gave his team 3 2/3 innings of shut down baseball. The Hawks added three more insurance runs in the top of the 6th and were able to hang on to their lead even when the Mustangs made a late charge in the bottom of 9th. Sophomore Ethan Torres (Consumnes Oaks HS) held onto the save leaving the tying run stranded on second base.

Game 2 of the 3 game series is set for Thursday at home 2:00 pm at Conway Field.
