Pirates come up short in season-ending loss at Reedley

Four of Porterville College's five starters scored in double figures with Maria Lopez' 21 points leading the way, but the short-handed Pirates finally wore down in a 70-63 loss at Reedley College to close the 2017-18 season on Saturday.

Trailing 38-22 at halftime, the Pirates exploded for 26 points in the third quarter to head into the final period tied 48-48. But with no reserves, PC couldn't keep up as Reedley outscored Porterville 22-15 in the fourth to escape with the win.

Lopez posted a double-double, adding 13 rebounds as well as five assists to her 21 points. Sierra Perez scored 15 points, Kassy Cervantes had 14 points while Sayla Arguelles chipped in with 10 points. Kathy Rodriguez had a rough night shooting, but totaled a team-best 14 rebounds.

Under head coach Jeremy Parker, Porterville ends the season with a 2-23 overall record and went 0-12 in Central Valley Conference play.
