WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: LONG ROAD HOME

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: LONG ROAD HOME

After a hot start to the season, the Hornets have hit some rough turf lately dropping their last three matches on the road. Last Friday, FC fell in a close one at Orange Coast 3-2.

If anything, Friday's loss showed that the Hornets have enough talent and fight left in them to finish the rest of the season on a positive note. Currently, FC is sitting in 6th place in the Orange Empire Conference. Undefeated Irvine Valley (No. 1 in the state) is in first, Orange Coast second, Riverside City third, Saddleback fourth, and Cypress fifth. Santiago Canyon and Santa Ana round out the rest at 7th and 8th place.

Both FC an OCC split the first two sets 19-25 and 25-22. The Pirates pulled out the third set 22-25, but the Hornets won the fourth in extras 26-24. The fifth and deciding set went to OCC 15-8.

FC's Amanda Henderson left it all on the floor leading the team in kills (24) and digs (17). Andrea Lopez had 10 kills, 7 digs, and 2 block assists. Kailyn Case delivered 42 assists, 10 digs, and 2 block assists. Carlie Ortega had 16 digs and Baylee Coble had 6 kills.

It's been a long haul for the Hornets who have been on the road the last three games, and they still have two more road games. FC will not see their home court in the South Gym until October 10th against Riverside City.

Up Next: The Hornets (6-4 overall, 1-3 OEC) will play at Santiago Canyon College on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:00 pm.
