It was the fourth straight win and first 3-0 sweep for the No. 4 Vaqueros (4-2, 1-0). The seventh-ranked Raiders (6-2, 1-1) dropped their second straight after starting the year 6-0.

Calvin Sanborn led SBCC's offense with 12 kills. Trent Lingruen added nine kills and a robust .467 hitting percentage. Keoni Thiim had eight kills, three aces and five digs.

Setter Kyle Merchen collected three kills in four tries and handed out 35 assists.

"It's always nice to get a win in the first game of conference, especially on the road," said Vaquero coach Jon Newton. "We started slow but we turned it around and played our volleyball for the rest of the match."

The Vaqueros are playing six of their first seven on the road, then will be home for six of seven matches.

They'll travel to Torrance to take on No. 2 El Camino on Friday at 6 p.m. No. 1 Long Beach knocked off No. 2 El Camino 3-1 on Wednesday in another WSC opener.
