The Panthers were at home again Friday, facing off against former conference rivals Rio Hondo College Roadrunners. The Chaffey squad came into the match ranked 10th in the nation and undefeated in the first month of play. "We are extremely happy with the win today," said Head Coach Grace Cooper. "We had multiple opportunities to score and showed perseverance to get the goals we needed to close out the game."
Chaffey's Sydney Cotter scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute of play, assisted by Vanessa Aviles. The fairly evenly matched teams went into the half 1-0.
After the break, the teams volleyed back-and-forth until Chaffey's Serenity DeLaTorre broke one past Rio to score the second, and final, goal of the game.
Autumn Gomez was at the net putting up two saves.
The team resumes conference play later today at Victor Valley and then hosts Mt San Jacinto Friday for a youth soccer/pink game.
