Women's Basketball Beats Imperial Valley in First Round of CCCAA Playoffs

VALLEY VILLAGE - The Los Angeles Valley College Women's Basketball team beat Imperial Valley 74-44 in the first round of the CCCAA Women's Basketball SoCal Regionals.

It was a slow start for the Monarchs - several missed shots and sloppy defense found Valley down 16-15 after the first quarter.  That would be the last time the Monarchs would trail in the game.  Defense came alive just before the half, and followed into the second half, with the Monarchs giving up just four points in both quarters.  Backing off slightly, Imperial Valley won the fourth quarter, but it was far too late.  The Monarchs finished the game up by 30 points.

Dyani Del Castillo (left) led the Monarchs with 18 points, including four threes from behind the arc.  Jordyn Jiron had 15 points in the game.  Jacqueline Privado finished right behind Jiron with 14 points.  Nia Brown (right) finished the game with 10 points and 7 rebounds.  Leena Vo had the most rebounds on the team with 12 in the game.

The Monarchs move on to the second round of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals - they will travel to Moorpark on Saturday, February 25, game time to be determined.  Keep it going, Monarchs!
