Women's Basketball Spark Win In Second Half

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons women's basketball team shook off a slow start and defeated Bakersfield College, 75-55, on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams combined for 42 turnovers and 38 fouls in what was a sloppy game.

The Cougars went into halftime only leading 36-30 and then they were able to break the game in open in the second half.

Freshman guard Keiona Mathews scored a team-high 20 points off the bench and sophomore center Hope Smith led the team with 13 rebounds and also had three steals. COC shot 33.4 percent from the field, as Bakersfield shot 27.4 percent.

The Cougars will play host to West L.A. College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 for another conference match up.
