Marauder Football fell to the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles 29-13 at home on Saturday. Mt. San Jacinto jumped out to an early lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass but missed the 2-point conversion. AVC responded with a 7-play, 47-yard drive that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run by Amir Bankhead. The Marauders' offense then stalled as they remained scoreless until the end of the 4th quarter.
The Eagles surged on, adding a field goal, two touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, and another touchdown early in the 4th quarter. Down 29-7 late in the 4th, AVC's Robinson Reece made what could be the play of the year with a spectacular one-handed catch from Warren Daryos for a 7-yard touchdown. Reece finished with a team-high 7 receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown, while Amir Bankhead led AVC's ground attack with 34 yards off 10 carries with a touchdown. Caden Hinton out-snapped Warren Daryos three quarters to one, but it was Daryos who was more effective, leading the Marauders with 53 yards passing and the only passing touchdown for Antelope Valley.
Defensively, AVC was led by Ethan John with 10 tackles. Dazhon Sanders and Miles Cooney had 8 tackles each, while Sanders had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The Marauders, now 0-2 will travel to Victor Valley next week before returning home to face Pasadena City College on Sept. 24.
