SHASTA COLLEGE LOSES TWO NAIL-BITERS AT SOLANO TOURNEY

FAIRFIELD, Calif. – The Shasta College women's basketball team dropped a pair of close games in the Solano Community College Tournament, falling 59-46 to San Joaquin Delta and 63-60 to Feather River College.

The Knights have lost three straight by a combined 14 points.

Sophomore Kayla Bonomini scored in double figures in both games for the Knights, finishing with 11 points and in the first game and 17 points in the second.

Shasta trailed 22-21 at half against San Joaquin Delta despite only scoring five points in the opening period. But the Knights were outscored 25-14 in the third quarter to lose by seven. Freshman Justyse Cooper scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds and sophomore Jordan Martinez scored eight points and dished seven assists.

In the loss to Feather River, Shasta led 19-7 after the opening quarter but was outscored 36-30 in the second half. Bonomini's 17 led the Knights while sophomore Mari Fernandez scored 14 points to go with eight rebounds, Martinez scored 12 points and registered six assists, and Cooper pitched in with eight points and eight boards.

Shasta (5-5) plays two games in the San Mateo Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
