The West Valley beach volleyball team opened the 2020 season with a pair of wins at the College of Marin.
The Vikings (2-0) knocked off Sierra (1-1) 4-1 and swept host Marin (0-3) 5-0.
In the season opener against the Wolverines, the Vikings got straight-set sweeps from 2's Rene Wash/Jaida Ward (21-17, 21-8), 3's Audrey Fernandez/Emily Paxton (21-18, 21-17) and 4's Della Trimble/Renee Martin (21-17, 21-17). WVC 1's Kayla Keller/Hannah Reynoso overcame Sierra's Abby Schimmel/Charlotte Cannizarro 15-21, 21-15, 15-9 in the best match of the morning. Sierra 5's Abby Husky/Hannah Platt rallied past WVC's Elia Duenas/Hannah Moore 21-9, 15-21, 15-5.
All five Viking pairs recorded straight-set sweeps in the afternoon match against the Mariners. It was 1's Keller/Reynoso swept Dugan/Galodamu 21-10, 21-16; 2's Wash/Ward over Johnson/Saccardi 21-13, 21-9; 3's Fernandez/Paxton 21-18, 21-11 over Williams/Perry; 4's Trimble/Martin 21-12, 21-12 over Kwan-Sy/Abuda; 5's Duenas/Moore 21-6, 21-9 over Eide/Varagnolo.
The Vikings open the 2020 home schedule Friday (2/28) against Feather River (1-1 ) at 11am and San Joaquin Delta (0-2) at 1pm.
