Irvine Valley Ends Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Season

(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC's 2018-19 campaign came to an end as No. 13 seed Irvine Valley (23-5) upset the No. 4 seed Mounties, 64-60, in a Southern California Regional second-round matchup on Saturday night.

Irvine Valley opened the game on an 11-2 run, but Mt. SAC (21-9) hung tough closing the gap to five, 15-10, at the end of the first quarter.

Trailing 26-20 with 3:53 left in the second, the Mounties went on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 28 at the half.

The Lasers opened up a 34-28 lead in the third only to see Mt. SAC take the lead, 36-35, on a Tiana Douglas layup at the 5:02 mark. Irvine Valley responded with a 15-3 run that gave the Lasers a 50-39 lead into the fourth.

Down 54-44, with 6:19 to play in the game, the Mounties closed the gap to three twice down the stretch, but it wasn't enough as the Lasers went on to advance to the next round.

Kiara Stiger lesd Mt. SAC in scoring with 16 points while teammates Lauryn Manns and Natalia Shpegel added 12 and 10, respectively. Douglas led the team in rebounding with nine, while Jade Hughes grabbed seven. Douglas, Hughes and Mya Victor each had a blocked shot. Aujanae Mayes had a game-high five steals. She and teammate Alexis Sanchez tied for game-highs in assists with four each.

Irvine Valley's Anai Washington led all scorers with 23 points and teammate Zoe Stachowski grabbed 15 boards.
