Meldrum Scores Big for Owls

Citrus College competed in the Cerritos Mini Tournament on Friday, settling for a split on the day.

The Owls fell 14-7 to Orange Coast College but bounced back with a 24-9 victory over Chaffey College to move to 6-4 on the season.

Teghan Miller led the Owls with two goals in the game, while Mia Meldrum, Gabriella Terry, Sey Currie, and Amelia Wolfe also scored.

Kate Carlyle made 12 saves in the loss.

Meldrum netted 10 goals in the nightcap, just one goal short of tying the single-game record for Citrus. Currie had three goals, while Annabell Caldera, Wolfe, Sophia Leon, and Miller each had two goals. Averi Bishop, Tamara Holstrom, and Gabby Orozco also scored in the victory.

Citrus jumped out to a 7-2 lead after the first quarter and pushed it to double-digits, 14-4, at halftime.

The Owls kept pushing and out-scored the Chaffey 7-to-3 in the third before securing the 24-9 result with five goals in the fourth.

Mia Pfutzenrueter made five saves in the game.

Citrus return home to host the Citrus Tournament on Friday.
