Chargers take down El Camino, 6-1

Cypress, CA- Charger baseball gets back on top with a win over El Camino, 6-1. The Chargers go to (2-1) on the season and the Warriors fall to (1-2).

The Cypress baseball team honored the OCC head coach John Altobelli on Tuesday afternoon with a moment of silence before the game. Cypress coaching staff and the entire baseball community emphasized the fierce competitor that Coach Altobelli was and more importantly a great father, husband, and friend.

The Chargers kicked off the first inning with some small ball, when leadoff hitter Bobby Silvis singled into right field. He stole second base, and was knocked in on a fielder's choice by Andrew Sojka. Cypress grabbed the lead early and did not look back. Pitcher, Patrick Monroe got the start for the Chargers and gave up one hit, but struggled with his command. He lasted 3.1 innings until Carson Frazier came in relief. Frazier hit the first batter he faced and then settled down to retire the side in the 4th inning.  The Chargers poured it on in the 7th inning when an error by El Camino's second baseman allowed two runs to score. Cypress went on to win the game 6-1.

Up Next: Baseball will travel to College of the Desert to play a three game tournament beginning on Thursday, January 30th. The Chargers will be back home on February 4th when they take on Grossmont at 2pm.
